Frantzeska Iosif, studentessa cipriota arrivata in Costiera amalfitana grazie all’associazione Acarbio che ospita giovani Erasmus da tutto il mondo, in questo articolo spiega come è stato possibile far rivivere un luogo come il vecchio Rifugio che si trova tra il territorio di Tramonti e Nocera Inferiore – dimenticato da tutti, tra rovi e rifiuti – e che ora invece può essere anche usato da guide escursionistiche per un turismo che esalti i luoghi meno conosciuti dalla massa e che predilige la tutela e la conservazione dell’ambiente.

Una guida on line creata nell’ambito del partneraiato strategico Erasmus+ (“Rescue: Renewed spaces – U Educate) ha coinvolto 4 partner europei (Francia, Romania, Italia e Grecia) due anni di lavoro (da dicembre 2020 fino a novembre 2022), descrive tutte le fasi del progetto e aiuta chi vuole intraprendere un lavoro simile nella propria comunità.

Hai mai visto uno spazio abbandonato nella tua zona che pensi possa avere un potenziale se ci fosse qualcuno che lo rinnovasse?

A ognuno di noi è capito di passare in un posto e provare questa sensazione di “se”. Se questo posto fosse un parco, se questo posto fosse pulito, se avesse dei colore sui muri, allora avrebbe potuto offrire molto alla comunità. Avrebbe magari potuto attrarre persone e aiutare le imprese locali a migliorare e così prosperare.

Spazi abbandonati con un potenziale di attrazione esistono ovunque, specialmente nelle aree rurali. Questo accade perché molte persone si trasferiscono dai villaggi alle città, nella speranza di trovare una vita migliore con maggiori opportunità. Così, molti spazi nelle aree rurali non vengono mantenuti e alla fine vengono abbandonati.

Identificare i luoghi abbandonati che hanno potenzialità

Basterebbe avere una semplice visione o un’idea di cosa potrebbe essere questo posto. Un’idea semplice e abbiamo appena fatto il primo passo verso un bel cambiamento per la nostra comunità, un primo passo che aiuterà la nostra comunità a svilupparsi economicamente. Ma ognuno potrebbe dire che una cosa è avere un’idea e un’altra è realizzarla davvero. Le due cose sono molto diverse e la realizzazione ha bisogno di qualcuno che sia professionale per farlo. Bene, sono qui per dirti che hai torto e posso dirti come chiunque può farlo con pochi semplici passaggi. Per prima cosa lasciate che vi dia un esempio di un’associazione locale che lo ha reso possibile.

Un esempio concreto: Il Rifugio di Tramonti

Il Rifugio era un luogo abbandonato nel bosco intorno alla zona di Tramonti ed era uno spazio che veniva utilizzato dalle guardie forestali. Ad un certo punto le guardie forestali se ne sono andate e il rifugio è stato abbandonato e non è stato mantenuto. L’associazione Acarbio vedendo questo luogo qualche anno fa, ha capito il suo potenziale. Così hanno iniziato a elaborare la loro idea sul luogo (prendendo contatti con le amministrazioni locali) e a trasformarla in un piano, passo passo su come rinnovare il luogo e chi può trarne vantaggio. Così si è iniziato a rinnovare lo spazio con l’aiuto di volontari locali e internazionali con l’obiettivo di trasformarlo in uno spazio di riposo per tutti gli escursionisti che vi transitano. Il rifugio offrirà strutture di base per gli escursionisti per fare una pausa o anche passare la notte. A parte gli escursionisti che vi transitano, lo spazio può portare crescita economica alla comunità locale in quanto ha il potenziale per visite guidate organizzate da professionisti locali. Le guide turistiche possono informare le persone sulla biodiversità locale e sulle azioni intraprese per proteggere la fauna e la flora del territorio. Il Rifugio può aiutare a sensibilizzare l’ambiente e offrire un bel luogo di riposo dove gli escursionisti possono pranzare o prendere un caffè e trascorrere un po’ di tempo.

Le fasi di progettazione per realizzare l’idea

Si potrebbe pensare che per rendere fruibile un luogo come il “Rifugio” siano necessari: competenza nel fare affari e nella gestione degli eventi. Non proprio, tutto ciò di cui si aveva bisogno era un gruppo di persone motivate e una pianificazione semplice. I passaggi seguiti possono essere trovati facilmente online (https://e-rescue.eu/). Una piattaforma online spiega tutte le fasi che attraverserai quando realizzerai la tua idea e offre esempi per aiutarti a comprendere meglio il processo. È una guida online gratuita che include attività interattive, dell’organizzazione ma anche di altre tre organizzazioni di altri tre paesi europei. Ripristinare uno spazio abbandonato e aiutare a dargli vita può aiutare a migliorare il benessere delle persone nella tua comunità, soprattutto se chiedi alle persone di aiutarti nel processo. Darai alle persone la sensazione di appartenenza e di sentirsi integrate nella loro comunità. Darà a tutti voi la possibilità di creare nuove opportunità per lo sviluppo del territorio.

English version: A guide made for you to bring life back to your community

Have you ever seen a space which is left abandoned in your area that you think it could have a lot of potential if someone renovates it?  We all have, to pass by a place and have this ‘if’ feeling. If this place was a park, if this place was clean, if it had some color on the walls, then it could have offered a lot to the community, it could have attracted people and help local businesses flourish. Abandoned spaces with lot of potential exists everywhere, especially in the rural areas. This happens because many people move away from the villages to the cities in hopes to find a better life with more opportunities. Thus, many spaces in the rural areas are left unmaintained and eventually turn abandoned. 

How can we identify them? 

With a simple vision or an idea of what this place could be. A simple idea and we just made the first step towards making a beautiful change for our community, a first step which will help our community develop economically. But you would tell me that, it is one thing to have an idea and another to actually realizing it. The two are very different things and the realization needs someone who is professional to do it. Well, I am here to tell you that you are wrong, and I can tell you how anyone can do it with few simple steps. 

First let me give you one example of a local organization who made it possible.

The Rifugio is an abandoned shelter in the forest around the area of Tramonti and it was a space which was used by the forest guards. At some point the forest guards left and the shelter was abandoned and unmaintained. ACARBIO found the place few years back and it realised it’s potential. They people of ACARBIO began elaborating their idea on the place and turn it into a step-by-step plan on how they can renovate the place and who can benefit from it. So, they began to renovate the space with the help of local and international volunteers with the aim to turn into a resting space for all hikers who pass though there. The shelter will offer basic facilities for hikers to have a break or even spend the night. Apart from the hikers who pass through there, the space can bring economic growth to the local community as it has potential for guided tours organised by local professional. The tour guides can inform people on the local biodiversity and the actions taken to protect the fauna and flora of the area. Rifugio can help raise environmental awareness as well as offer a nice resting spot where hikers can have lunch or coffee and some bonding time.

You may think that to make Rifugio possible needed expertise in doing business and managing events. Not really, all they needed was a group of motivated people and simple planning. The steps which they followed you can find easily online, as the organization also contributed into making e – rescue.eu . A platform which explains all the stages which you will go through when realizing your own idea and offers examples to help you better understand the process. It’s an online free guide which includes interactive activities, from the organization but also three other organizations from three other European countries. Restoring an abandoned space and helping to bring life to it can help improve the wellbeing of the people in your community, especially if you ask people to help you in the process. You will give people the feeling of belonging and to feel integrated into their community. It will give all of you a chance to create new opportunities for the development of the territory.
